From 2028, finished products containing steel and aluminium will be subject to the carbon border adjustment mechanism.
The European Union is continuing to strengthen the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) by considering a gradual extension of its scope to new tariff headings. It is proposed that finished products containing steel or aluminium be included from 1 January 2028.
Among the new tariff headings added, we can find* :
Iron and steel
Combined metal products
Industrial machinery
Household appliances
Electrical equipment
Vehicles and components
Metal furniture
Technical and medical devices containing metal
Others
Many new operators will need to adjust their sourcing and customs clearance strategies and anticipate their carbon costs.
PARADIGMES is at your disposal to offer training that will enable you to understand and anticipate these regulatory changes.
* This list is neither exhaustive nor detailed. Therefore, when a product is mentioned, only certain models and configurations may be affected. For precise details of the tariff headings of product categories that will soon be subject to CBAM, please refer to the appendix available via this link .
