Approach

A global perspective on the life cycle of products and waste.

We handle all regulatory issues related to the production, placing on the market, cross-border movements and end-of-life of products, as well as the treatment and recovery of their waste.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing is a key stage in the life of a product. The regulations governing this phase determine whether the product can be marketed, under what conditions, in which territories, and what costs its marketing will entail. Depending on the intensity of the pollution generated by the manufacturing process, it may also be subject to specific environmental regulations.

  • Environmental authorisation
  • Industrial emissions
  • Best available techniques
  • CO2 emissions
  • ICPE (Classified Installations for Environmental Protection)
  • Forest destruction
  • Protected species

Export

Taking goods out of a country is generally relatively simple. The situation changes when their export could harm the exporting country’s interests, as this triggers specific controls and formalities. It also becomes more complex when the export entitles the exporter to economic benefits, in which case additional formalities are required.

  • Export control
  • Embargoes
  • International sanctions
  • Military goods
  • Dual-use goods
  • Risk of proliferation of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons
  • Restrictions on movements
  • Cultural goods
  • Waste
  • VAT exemption on exports
  • Registered exporter
  • Approved exporter
  • Agricultural subsidies
  • Quotas
  • Free trade agreements
  • Incoterms

Import

The introduction of goods into a country’s territory is subject to customs formalities that identify the goods and determine their intended use in the country concerned. If the goods are intended for domestic users, they are released for free circulation, subject to compliance with the rules specific to this procedure. Otherwise, another customs procedure is applied and the goods remain under customs supervision.

Placing on the market

All products released for free circulation or offered for sale in a country must comply with the regulations applicable in that country. This is essential not only for user safety but also for the proper functioning of the country’s economic system. Placing products on the market also triggers the collection of import duties, consumption taxes and similar charges.

  • Release for free circulation
  • Making available on the market
  • Putting into service
  • Free movement of goods
  • E-commerce
  • Preferential origin
  • ICT (Internal consumption taxes)

Recovery

The end of a product’s life does not mean the end of its existence. Once discarded, it is collected, sorted, and prepared either for a second life or for recovery as raw material or energy. Numerous regulations govern these processes, from product design to the recovery or disposal of all waste

Équipe

Evguenia Dereviankine,
lawyer, partner

Specialising in environmental, customs, and transport law, I am an expert in the regulations governing the life cycles and cross-border transfers of products and waste. My work consists of establishing links between the rules that apply at each stage of a product’s or waste’s life cycle, analyzing their interconnections, and helping clients build strategies accordingly, including project launches, crisis management, audits, risk management, commercial litigation, and administrative or criminal defence.

I am supported by a team of in-house lawyers and a network of external experts who share the same commitments and values, including engineers, chemists, engineering firms, logisticians, registered customs agents, and tax representatives.
